Whoda thunk it? A custom Llama .45. I never thought
about putting this much time and effort into a Llama, but a friend
brought me his and asked what I could do with it. He said he
had fired about 2000 rounds through it and it never jammed.
After looking it over I decided to give it a go. It took a
nice 5# trigger job, without replacing any parts, except the sear
spring. I replaced the weak (10#?) recoil spring with an 18
1/2# Wolff spring, and installed a better fitting barrel bushing
and a full length guide rod. I replaced the slide stop with a
standard 1911 part. I recontoured and refitted the thumb
safety. I checkered the front strap, mainspring housing,
magazine release button and the bottom of the trigger guard.
I octogoned the top of the slide and installed Wilson combat
sights. It got a Teflon finish and custom grips. I had
to make the grips because the hole spacing on the Llama is
different and standard 1911 grips would not fit. Pretty is as
pretty does. It looks good, and shoots like a house
afire.
